Any games that work well for spontaneous rp with character development and continuity? Not memes, but also not too highly scheduled?

I'm likely interested in OCs or obscure or infrequently played characters, so I'm not making a list (it would be incomplete anyway), but I have a variety I could play that might fit most setting types. No horror, murder, or sex games, please.
