GRANTED, your mileage may vary a bit depending on the character--I can tell you from personal experience that some characters click with the setting for people FAR better than others, but the playerbase generally tends to be more than happy to tag/tag back to newcomers, for sure. And, y'know, there's a good-sized existing Fate/ cast to boot.
The setting of the game is basically a world where emotions cause external effects, for good or bad. There's both ongoing plot stuff and opportunities for more slice of life things; power nerfing is typically minimal (unless a player opts for something more restrictive) and activity is pretty easy. ALSO I feel I should always say for Fate/ characters, don't feel pressured to pick up an FGO version just because we have a large cast from that already, we're definitely MORE than happy to run with the confusion and suspicion of people coming in from other timelines, too!
