Emet-Selch absolutely took extreme care in creating Hythlodaeus's shade, withholding very specific information from it which both he and the original would have known, and giving him enough specific purpose to be able to entrust the convocation memory stones to him, all of them. But he still may have not meant for him to be self-aware... theoretically...
