FOR GAME ADS:

➤ Put an ad up with the characters / crew / pairings / fetish you want for your game under the correct game header. This meme is primarily going to be focused on DWRP games but IJ and LJ games are allowed.

➤ PLEASE NOTE A RULE CHANGE HERE. ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding (no font size > size 4 or 3 "big" tags, no oversized banners (they must be 250px in height or less), no blinking text, no obnoxious table html that doesn't collapse easily, no sparklies, no large pictures). Use all the colors you like, but please remember 3 "big" tags is the limit and that's only for headers or title text rather than for all the text in an ad.

FOR GAME QUESTIONS:

➤ RPers interested in a game can create a header for the game and ask questions about that game that aren't easy to find on faqs, such as the actual pace vs. what's listed/what kind of plots are run/if the game leans more towards plotty or slice of life/if a game leans more towards network or logs, etc. Both anon questions and anon answers are welcome in this section just like in the rest of the meme.

➤ This thread is not for speaking about wank or drama in a game. There are anoncomms that exist for that. This thread is specifically for general questions about a game that rpers want to get perspective on from players already in the game. Answers can be slightly negative (such as saying app response is slow or that the plots are repetitive or similar things) but this should at least be worded politely. Unnecessary vitriol, any mention of personal drama or wank, or mod teams/individual mods/players being singled out, will be either frozen or screened (based on what seems right based on the content).

FOR CHARACTER ADS:

➤ Put up an ad about the characters you are offering. For PSL ads, there is a separate subthread but for character ads for games, post directly to the meme post. Others will comment to you with the games/casts they want you to join.

➤ There is a "Find a Castmate" section, where you can talk about a cast you play in at a game, and try to lure people to join it. Not all games post to the meme or have a "wanted" section, so players that want to tempt people to their cast on their own can use this section for it. Please format this the same as the PSL section, where you post your character's canons in your subject. For the actual text of the ad you must use the "Find a Castmate" form provided at the bottom of this post so that these ads don't get huge. When listing who's currently in a cast, please do this in sentence form (with commas) rather than in list form.

➤ There is a "Find Crosscanon" section, where you can talk about a character you play and and desired crosscanon for that character. Please make sure this is not too generalized a search, because just wanting general crosscanon can be accomplished with the other sections of the meme. This is for specific characters or character types you're looking for. In the subject, please list the "Looking for [canon you're looking for]" rather than your character's canon. If looking for a character type, list the character type in as few words as possible. Do not make the subject huge or I'll screen your comment. For the actual text of the ad you must use the "Find Crosscanon" form provided at the bottom of this post so that these ads don't get huge. This section is only for game crosscanon as in the psl section people can list their preferences.

➤ Examples of crosscanon you can search for: You play The Flash from DC Comics and your dream CR is fellow speedster Quicksilver from Marvel. Or you might play a witch and want cr with other witches in general. Or maybe you play a good character messed up by evil parents and want to play against a villain character you know has evil parents, because you know it'd lead to some interesting negative CR.

➤ ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding, with the same rules as the Game Ads Section above.

➤ If you're recommending a game to someone, try to match your suggestion to their needs. It's okay if part of your game rec is copy-pasted (such as what the game's about), but at least some part of the rec must be personalized to their ad. Try not to recommend the same game to every single ad, either. Ad spam that isn't individualized in some way will also be frozen or screened. Keep in mind this needs to be more specific than "this game has easy AC like you're asking for but meets none of your other requirements." Make sure you're advertising games that might click with that specific character, where a few elements fit what they're looking for. You should be thinking about the story reasons of how the character might click with the game.

IN GENERAL:

➤ Don't be a dick. This isn't one of the anoncomms, so any snide comments or unnecessary commentary on the RP plans of others will be frozen or screened.

➤ Important note: IP logging has turned on due to multiple instances past and present of problem players trying to return to the dwrp community via emp after being banned other places, so I'll be IP logging from now on, and will compare notes with the rpa and wg mods (as well as game mods) where appropriate if it seems like someone that has been mass banned. I will not pay attention to IPs otherwise. I don't care what people like playing or who's who. So please feel comfortable to keep doing your thing, anon or otherwise. The knowledge will only be used for really egregious problem cases.

Sorry this is long, I woke up to this, don't want to leave it hanging all day, and have stuff to do today like groceries so I don't want to spend an hour editing it.

Someone linked me to the wg thread where the copy paste of you insulting me was dropped. Pastebin style stuff has always been considered actionable for me. On the wg thread, people have run commentary confirming what you said (even in defense of you), so I have to base things on that, unless you have screencaps that prove otherwise. A lot of this will be in response to what you were cited as saying there.

Listen, I'm a volunteer. I've kept up with this for years for the dwrp community. I really don't ask for much back, but not being insulted in places that are public to at least a game-sized populations where it might filter to me isn't really a big ask. Especially when you had the option to PM me so I could explain my reasoning and what weighted the decision.

I don't have to prescribe to the idea of being a customer service robot. I get to choose how I react to things that are uncomfortable or upsetting to me, just like people get to choose whether they're okay with my reactions.

Unfortunately, this was brought to me because of the venue you chose and now I have to choose to react to how I feel about it. Had you done this in a place that never would've escaped to the public, or shouldn't have escaped to the public (like a private mod channel or private plurk clique) I would've disregarded this as you venting in a private place. But it seems like there are multiple confirmations it was in your main game discord.

Posting it somewhere your whole game can see is a patently dick move and the pettiness, lack of impulse control, and lack of foresight involved in not realizing how this could leak out makes me not want to have you in the same sphere as average players. Because it's ultimately my choice who gets to be allowed in a space where other members of the dwrp community as a whole get to mingle, and I can be conservative about protecting their comfort levels and about what people are allowed into that space.

Henceforth the mods of Come Sail Away are banned from posting game ads on EMP. When reading the wg thread I was linked people were apparently concerned this would limit your exposure and kill the game but you should've thought about that before blasting a hobby volunteer in a game's public space. Also, you still have places like RPA and people replurking game info and your tdms so you're not cut out of ads altogether.

Individual Come Sail Away players will not be banned from the "Find and Castmate" and "Find Crosscanon" sections. They don't deserve the repercussions from the situation you've caused, and I doubt they were all universally okay with your response, so I'm going to still allow them that, especially since "Find a Castmate" does allow for people to essentially put game blurbs.

FYI: a) I acted on your ad because I got an actual anon complaint from someone. b) I'm in the middle of being assessed for ADHD and my psychiatrist thinks I probably have it, and whatever's going on with my brain has felt debilitating my whole life, so I didn't think it was funny, and c) Since people with ADHD sometimes accidentally congregate, I also asked a few people with confirmed diagnoses that I know their honest feelings on the ad to try to have a measured response. I'm an anon mod, not Batman. My ID isn't secret to absolutely everyone so I have a bunch of solidly reasonable friends I sometimes can ask for outside opinions on stuff. Like a lot of RPers, they happen to have a grab bag of different types of neuroatypicality.

Overall consensus was it that it shouldn't be treated as intentionally hostile but that it was a bit tacky and tasteless to do that kind of edgy "I'm so bipolar!" "I'm so ADHD!" "I'm so OCD!" lol randumb humor that was originally circa 2002. Especially given some people find ADHD debilitating enough to not think it's funny.

It is totally cool for people to self-describe and joke around in their own spaces. If your players were laughing about the tendency for people with ADHD accidentally travel in packs, more power to everyone. But it crossed a line when it was put in the ad in a public forum for everyone else to come across and have their feelings affected by it, especially for those entirely distant from a game's inside jokes.

Since no group is a monolith, the fact it can be tacky and tasteless to some people with ADHD overrides people with ADHD in your game being chill with it, because at the end of the day your ad isn't hurt by not including it, but people's feelings can be bothered or hurt if it is included.

That's it. That's the calculus there. Trending towards caution towards people's feelings out of courtesy to the ones that might be bothered.

Also, wrt to not tapping you privately, almost every single mod and player I've ever cited for a rule break I've done with a public comment. In cases where they PMed me and private convo went south and didn't stay polite I also posted the screen caps to a thread in the mod contact page so others can see the situation for what it is and see whether I handled it well or not. People have always been able to make their judgements and decide whether they're okay with my responses or not.

It's about accountability, specifically my own. Nobody gets special treatment and has that taken privately when any users of the meme deserve that kind of transparency from me. The only times I sometimes have taken someone aside in PM is in situations where someone seems wholly new to modding and seems to be struggling with format or understanding how emp works, to give them advice. 99% of the time they PM me first.

I'll be locking this. Any further contact you extend will just be deleted unless you expressly have caps proving the convo went differently. I fully expect this to explode but I have to go grocery shop so I'll just have to deal with it when I'm back.
