FOR GAME ADS:

➤ Put an ad up with the characters / crew / pairings / fetish you want for your game under the correct game header. This meme is primarily going to be focused on DWRP games but IJ and LJ games are allowed.

➤ PLEASE NOTE A RULE CHANGE HERE. ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding (no font size > size 4 or 3 "big" tags, no oversized banners (they must be 250px in height or less), no blinking text, no obnoxious table html that doesn't collapse easily, no sparklies, no large pictures). Use all the colors you like, but please remember 3 "big" tags is the limit and that's only for headers or title text rather than for all the text in an ad.

FOR GAME QUESTIONS:

➤ RPers interested in a game can create a header for the game and ask questions about that game that aren't easy to find on faqs, such as the actual pace vs. what's listed/what kind of plots are run/if the game leans more towards plotty or slice of life/if a game leans more towards network or logs, etc. Both anon questions and anon answers are welcome in this section just like in the rest of the meme.

➤ This thread is not for speaking about wank or drama in a game. There are anoncomms that exist for that. This thread is specifically for general questions about a game that rpers want to get perspective on from players already in the game. Answers can be slightly negative (such as saying app response is slow or that the plots are repetitive or similar things) but this should at least be worded politely. Unnecessary vitriol, any mention of personal drama or wank, or mod teams/individual mods/players being singled out, will be either frozen or screened (based on what seems right based on the content).

FOR CHARACTER ADS:

➤ Put up an ad about the characters you are offering. For PSL ads, there is a separate subthread but for character ads for games, post directly to the meme post. Others will comment to you with the games/casts they want you to join.

➤ There is a "Find a Castmate" section, where you can talk about a cast you play in at a game, and try to lure people to join it. Not all games post to the meme or have a "wanted" section, so players that want to tempt people to their cast on their own can use this section for it. Please format this the same as the PSL section, where you post your character's canons in your subject. For the actual text of the ad you must use the "Find a Castmate" form provided at the bottom of this post so that these ads don't get huge. When listing who's currently in a cast, please do this in sentence form (with commas) rather than in list form.

➤ There is a "Find Crosscanon" section, where you can talk about a character you play and and desired crosscanon for that character. Please make sure this is not too generalized a search, because just wanting general crosscanon can be accomplished with the other sections of the meme. This is for specific characters or character types you're looking for. In the subject, please list the "Looking for [canon you're looking for]" rather than your character's canon. If looking for a character type, list the character type in as few words as possible. Do not make the subject huge or I'll screen your comment. For the actual text of the ad you must use the "Find Crosscanon" form provided at the bottom of this post so that these ads don't get huge. This section is only for game crosscanon as in the psl section people can list their preferences.

➤ Examples of crosscanon you can search for: You play The Flash from DC Comics and your dream CR is fellow speedster Quicksilver from Marvel. Or you might play a witch and want cr with other witches in general. Or maybe you play a good character messed up by evil parents and want to play against a villain character you know has evil parents, because you know it'd lead to some interesting negative CR.

➤ ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding, with the same rules as the Game Ads Section above.

➤ If you're recommending a game to someone, try to match your suggestion to their needs. It's okay if part of your game rec is copy-pasted (such as what the game's about), but at least some part of the rec must be personalized to their ad. Try not to recommend the same game to every single ad, either. Ad spam that isn't individualized in some way will also be frozen or screened. Keep in mind this needs to be more specific than "this game has easy AC like you're asking for but meets none of your other requirements." Make sure you're advertising games that might click with that specific character, where a few elements fit what they're looking for. You should be thinking about the story reasons of how the character might click with the game.

IN GENERAL:

➤ Don't be a dick. This isn't one of the anoncomms, so any snide comments or unnecessary commentary on the RP plans of others will be frozen or screened.

➤ All mod responses regardless of whether they're rule breaks, correction requests (like someone posting in the wrong section), or thwapping someone for spamming copy-paste ads, have always been and will almost universally be public. If someone sends a PM and the conversation gets combative, this will also be made public and posted to the comments of the mod contact page. This is for the sake of transparency so people can judge the emp mod's communications for fairness themselves.

There are times where the player's post may be screened (such as if they posted to the wrong section) but the mod's response will be left unscreened.

➤ Players may sometimes be allowed more than one strike for copy-paste ads since this is often just enthusiasm behind it, but game mods should know better. They'll get one warning for copy-paste ads, and if they spam anymore copy-paste ads after the warning, they'll be banned from the meme.

seeking + rundown:
canon, crosscanon, ocs, etc. medium does not matter. m/m for shipping. cr is a little tricky with yin han due to so much of his canon line being entangled with a man (high powered gang leader and casino owner) who keeps him more or less under lock and key. i've listed points at which there's some capacity (whether we're mashing our canons together or whatever.) there is one person who, early on, gives yin han his number and asks him to call him if he needs a way to escape from cheng jingsen and that's a thing that could be used too.

— if precanon: before cheng jingsen takes him in, there's a period of time in which yin han is orphaned that can be used in a canon-divergent way along the lines of the bs stray meme, and other related tropes.

— if during canon: for the most part, yin han is under cheng jingsen for the bulk of this, including such basic things as being able to go out on his own to the museum, etc. working this angle would have to be before yin han begins to feel complicated but sincere feelings for him, or after but when he's still trying to leave him (this may be most doable since in this smaller window of time he is living alone, apart from cheng jingsen.)

— if post-canon: gen, probably a one-off thread in an art gallery maybe during one of his exhibits. m/m if we went canon divergent and then there's a lot of free room for an actual PSL.

notes:
— yin han has a relationship with cheng jingsen that at the start is extremely unhealthy, imbalanced, and abusive. but his decision to go with him, to be taken in by him when offered, has less to do with having nowhere to go and more with his own agenda, which is a spoiler in and of itself. enough to say: yin han is not just submitting himself to all of it for the hell of it. he has his own intentions. to anyone on the outside it would look actually insane if they knew the details. to those in the circle of cheng jingsen, yin han is either perceived as his ward or his lover and sometimes both but not with any sentimental value attached (yin han is used in a final bet at a high stakes gambling table, cementing for others that he has not cracked the fortress of cheng jingsen.)

places someone could run into/meet him are limited but include certainly: the casino, an art museum in new york, on the street on his way to the predetermined car sent to pick him up lmao, or later in canon at his part-time job in a restaurant.

a skilled painter, yin han is capable of masterful forgeries as well, which might be usable depending on your character, what they do/want, etc. maybe your character or a client of your character bought one of his forgeries, and somehow traced it back to him?

new york memoirs is set in a modern world without magic or other supernatural things, but i'm very open to integrating that facet.

Hello hello. I just so happen to have another guy with a dark backstory who's located in New York. Before I get too far into planning, I feel like I should give out his warnings. They're here. That page also has some general info. If you're still interested, let me know, and we can plot.

Oh, very cool. I guess we really are both drawn to dark stories from NY.

I assume it does take place in NY, right? If so, I think we can do something either precanon. You mentioned strays, Ash is a gang leader who is used to taking on strays.

If you're interested in doing something more canon related, we could have them meet at an art museum. This could be accidental or even intentional since Cheng Jingsen might be someone Dino has an interest in, and Ash is trying to make sure he stays on top of Dino's plans. When not playing with other BF folks or not doing end of canon, I usually just have things going as they were before he met Eiji so he'd still be under Dino's thumb.

I honestly was not expecting to run into another one, and I haven't since Banana Fish so I was really surprised! Go figure!

100% it absolutely does. More specifics, precanon, Yin Han had been attending an art camp in NJ but was meeting with his future benefactor — a wealthy Chinese businessman — and his sister and mother at a fancy restaurant in downtown NYC. A bomb mistakenly placed in their rented car goes off when his mother and sister go back to the car, orphaning him completely. It leaves him with a visceral fear of heights (he'd been watching them run back to the car from watching it happen on the restaurant's higher floor. The homestay he was in runs out in 10 days from that time, and then the landlord takes him in (with her own vile agenda), but maybe, the person who planted the bomb sends his men after Yin Han in case he has anything to do with Cheng Jingsen (which he doesn't yet the irony to his knowledge), the actual intended target of the bomb. This would force him to leave, but still give him the information he needs to have his own singleminded goal (vengeance lmao.) I can be more plain with that if you don't mind spoilers!

Anyway, if Yin Han is on the run, it would be the dogged survival in order to see a mission through sort of thing, always tinged with the willingness to die as long as he can see it through first. He's 17 at this point, it's winter, and he doesn't honestly know how to do anything gang related. Any of that he learns later on in canon canon. Possibly Ash (and co) run into him running from one of Cheng Qi's (bomb guy and Cheng Jingsen's brother because of course he is) men.

If more canon related option, them meeting at an art museum is chef's kiss. Unlike Ash, Cheng Jingsen does't use Yin Han in gang orchestration or handling. He's much more of a strictly Kept person, to the point of being given a certain amount of time to be at the museum, with arranged pick-up and drop-off with a trusted driver. The most he uses him visibly/to show is eventually at a high roller card game but that happens probably later than we'd have them meet here.

TL;DR I am fine with either one, the latter being a subtler/milder/less dramatic entry into each other's views, but certainly having the capacity to have as much drama as the first option later on.

ALTERNATELY ALTERNATELY we can have a scene to the tune of option 1 and instead of going with Ash, Yin Han runs after being helped out by him/ saved. And THEN they meet again at the MET since it's free/donation based lmao and that could also work.

I don't mind spoilers at all.

I think the alternative option sounds perfect. Why not combine the two? It would also be a fun juxtaposition between Ash as a gang leader and the side of Ash that just enjoys things.

the spoiler(ish)ness is that yin han even after being offered an "out" by cheng jingsen in the beginning CHOOSES to stay lol because it's basically his only chance to GET a chance over time to find a weakness that would allow him to ruin cheng jingsen. that's the vague intent at the beginning before he learns more about how cheng jingsen got the way he is and more than that gets romantically (still fucked up tbh) entangled with him. bc cheng jingsen is the reason his mother and sister died and he had the ability to stop it from happening and lol did Not. but he's had his own awful past and that humanizes him in a way that's not undoable for yin han. so it's Complicated TM. TL;DR at canon start where we'd be having them meet more or less, borderline precanon, he knows nothing except that it's this man's fault his family was killed and that the person who tried to kill him (and killed yin han's family instead) is ALSO a problem.

Starting with the attack/rescue is good. I can probably get you a starter between today and tomorrow as long as life doesn't curveball me. Is that okay? c:

Ah, the old 'abuser has a sad past but instead of getting help, we understand and let the abuse happen' trope. I've fallen for a character or two under the same umbrella so I get it <3

And yes! That sounds perfect, and I don't mind the wait.

Basically. Cheng Jingsen shocks HIMSELF lmao by becoming genuinely good and kind to Yin Han but as per usual present day good does not absolve past bad. These two give me a headache lol but they are In Love. It is all very messed up. SIGHS. <3

it's great so far (I'm into chapter 4 already). I wish it was a manga, as well, as I can very clearly see the visuals and it's robbing me of that lol But so far, it's great to read.

I may be interested in figuring something out to write with Yin as well. I have quite a few characters in the Batman world, as well as some originals.

Right?! TT there's 2 official as far as I know re the image his icon is from and: this. Which is more accurate re longer hair for yin han but I wanted color so I chose the icon image from later on. :/

I haven't caught up with any batverse in AGES but id be so up for most things whether bat or oc!!!

So a couple things that might be fun...

1. Tim here doing his detective work happens to be watching Cheng for something unrelated and finds Yin in the mix. Tries to help him get free, either via his vigilante persona or as himself

2. I also do play Bruce. Some kind of setting where Bruce "wins" Yin in that gambling game. He does it to save him but Yin doesn't want to leave. Or something darker where Bruce keeps him for his own fun?

Both of those sound fun!

With Tim there would be a LOT if not complete refusal of his help since in his mind, Yin Han doesn't need help (and unconsciously responds more to people considerably older than him) and on top of that doesn't want to be rescued. It could be interesting because we only see one of his "friends" and very barely, so what would it be like for Yin Han to form...a relationship/friendship/not-antagonistic-ship with someone? I genuinely don't know and would gladly see where it went! I feel bad for poor Tim though, given how difficult Yin Han can be.

Slightly leaning towards 2. Whether to save him or to keep him, I think Yin Han would not want to leave Cheng Jingsen, because he still has his own agenda but also has begun to become entangled with him emotionally (if in a confusing still imbalanced way lmao oof.) Where prior to becoming a little emotionally involved (despite not wanting to), he would've played into Bruce's hands more willingly just to see what he could get out of it (with full intent to return to Cheng Jingsen), I think at this point he would be more reluctant. But if he started to think Bruce could be useful in getting what he wanted out of Cheng Jingsen (false really, I think Bruce is probably too smart for Yin Han to even remotely outwit/use), he'd waver.

I think in both the cases of 1 or 2, a scene / thread we could work up to is one in which the vigilante persona does come into play (a shootout at the casino, Yin Han chasing someone down on his motorcycle but then being outnumbered and needing help, etc.)

Does either one of the 2 appeal more to you or is it pretty even? I can, at the end of the day, happily vibe with either because I feel like they both have good material to work with.
