April EMP Meme

meme goes up on the last Saturday of every month

Put an ad up with the characters / crew / pairings / fetish you want for your game under the correct game header. This meme is primarily going to be focused on DWRP games but IJ and LJ games are allowed.

ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding (no font size > size 4 or 3 "big" tags, no banners, no blinking text, no obnoxious tables, no sparklies, no pictures). Use all the colors you like, but please remember 3 "big" tags is the limit and that's only for headers or title text rather than for all the text in an ad.

RPers interested in a game can create a header for the game and ask questions about that game that aren't easy to find on faqs, such as the actual pace vs. what's listed/what kind of plots are run/if the game leans more towards plotty or slice of life/if a game leans more towards network or logs, etc. Both anon questions and anon answers are welcome in this section just like in the rest of the meme.

This thread is not for speaking about wank or drama in a game. There are anoncomms that exist for that. This thread is specifically for general questions about a game that rpers want to get perspective on from players already in the game. Answers can be slightly negative (such as saying app response is slow or that the plots are repetitive or similar things) but this should at least be worded politely. Unnecessary vitriol, any mention of personal drama or wank, or mod teams/individual mods/players being singled out, will be frozen and/or deleted.

Put up an ad about the characters you are offering. For PSL/1-on-1 ads, there is a separate subthread but for character ads for games, post directly to the meme post. Others will comment to you with the games/casts they want you to join.

There is a "Find a Castmate" section, where you can talk about a cast you play in at a game, and try to lure people to join it. Not all games post to the meme or have a "wanted" section, so players that want to tempt people to their cast on their own can use this section for it. Please format this the same as the PSL/1-on-1 section, where you post the canons in your subject. For the actual text of the ad you must use the "Find a Castmate" form provided at the bottom of this post so that these ads don't get huge. When listing who's currently in a cast, please do this in sentence form (with commas) rather than in list form.

ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding, with the same rules as the Game Ads Section above.

If you're recommending a game to someone, try to match your suggestion to their needs. It's okay if part of your game rec is copy-pasted (such as what the game's about), but at least some part of the rec must be personalized to their ad. Try not to recommend the same game to every single ad, either. Ad spam that isn't individualized in some way will also be screened.

Don't be a dick. This isn't one of the anoncomms, so any snide comments or unnecessary commentary on the RP plans of others will be screened.

How easy is it to get involved ICly? How does the "observer" part work/feel? Clunky, contrived, fun? Does this game have a projected end date or endgame? How are you finding the metaplot? How slow is the slow pace here?

Tell me everything anons

ICly - fairly easy. There are several events that will ultimately force people together and I personally have never really had trouble hitting up people for new CR opportunities or getting the characters out and about.

Observer - I'll be honest, sometimes I forget about this part of the game since from my POV it's mainly been using points to drop a box on the door step of a character or manipulate for plot. I have a feeling more will come of it later...? I still feel like that part of the game is a little mysterious to me. I definitely find it fun because it forces situations on characters and can make for more interesting cr opportunities that might not have happened before.

End Date - IDK if it does...? I can't remember one being mentioned or hinted at...

Metaplot - intriguing, though I wish I knew more of the puzzle pieces. there is still so much the players and characters don't know about what is happening.

Slow - It's easy to keep up with. If I'm gone for a few days I don't usually feel like I've missed much. Of course when there are events things pick up, but everyone is really great about backtagging and maintaining the slow pace makes it a good game to pair with other games I think. Like, it's not so slow that I'm ever BORED...but it's slow enough that I don't feel like I'm going to miss something if I have a busy IRL schedule or things to do.

What's the tone like for this game? I've been told that it's horror but it seems more cracky to me, which is a bit worrying. Are the metaplot and NPCs engaging?

What about it seems cracky to you anon? Why does it worry you? It does sometimes veer comical based on the event, but that depends on what the players decided to put their characters through. Sometimes we want to put them through the wringer. Sometimes we just want a laugh. It's not hard to avoid if that's not your thing. Events tend to be more horror/adventure than not overall.

The metaplot and NPCs are very engaging! They have their own personalities and motivations, and they don't all agree on what to do with the player characters or much if anything else. We just found out what was happening behind the scenes since the beginning of the game. Characters can talk to the NPCs to get information and favors. There's a lot of room to make it your own.

if the recent events are what's giving you this impression, I'd like to point out that they're coming on the tail end of MUCH heavier events. The mods are offering the lighter events, like the seven days celebration and this month's jumpscares, as a breather for the players and the characters. The game has definite horror elements but isn't solely horror, especially due to the mix of npcs that affect the events. The mods are pretty great when it comes to giving players chances to bring in events as well - we've had the rifts from DA appear as well as Silent Hill thanks to characters from both canons being there - so there's definitely scope to talk with the mods and hash out events based on your character's canon or just suggest events that can be used.

Is a new test drive going to be posted for April or May? I know there has been some mod changeover but the newest one was back in March.

I keep hearing about this game but I don't know what it's really about besides vague Alice in Wonderland references, mirrors, and events based on characters in game. What's it like here? What's the metaplot about? It's a big game so obviously it's doing something right but I can't get enough of a feel for it to see which of my muses would be a good fit. Help me, Obi-wan EMPobi, you're my only hope.

slides in a lil late to answer this

without getting too mushy, eway is the game that pulled me back into dwrp after like 4 years out of it and now I've been playing there a year! So it's obvious to say I'm pretty happy with the way the game works and the cool stuff I've gotten to do there. I'll try to answer as much as possible and feel free to ask more questions!!!

So Entranceway's main thing is it's an Alice in Wonderland twist, with the idea that Wonderland was the first real "world" that ever existed, and other worlds split off from it and created the multiverse. Wonderland gathers it's power from drawing people back in, feeding on their memories, and evolving. The reason it's "Wonderland" themed is because of Alice herself- part of the plot of eway centers around the fact that every time Wonderland has an event from your character's world, everyone in the cast loses a single word out of their memory. In theory, if you're there too long, you'll no longer remember your home, or anything outside of Wonderland. Alice herself is the example of that person, and the World was so shaped by her memories it became as we see it now. There's a toooon of stuff that's happened since then and there's a bunch more detail on the premise and storyline page, which includes a play-by-play of how the metaplot has progressed since the game's opening. Basically, characters are trying to figure out why and how Wonderland takes memories, what the NPCs want from them, and to 'escape' before Wonderland claims them completely.

As for the mirrors, part of the game's structure is that, in addition to the world proper, there is a world that exists beyond the looking glass, ruled over by the Queen of Hearts and populated entirely by "mirror" characters. These characters are up to players to create and control (and frankly I love getting to make them because it's just such a cool character exercise), and exist as your character's opposite in some way. Usually people do this by flipping a key character trait, changing a character's motivations, or ramping up a certain personality aspect. There's no AC for these characters required and while there's a seperate comm for them outside of mirror events, they can be used as much or as little as you want to play with them. The thing to note regarding the metaplot is that they can see through any reflective surface, and are always loyal to the Queen of Hearts, who rules the mirror side of the mansion. So part of the metaplot is that your character's actions are also always being watched by their "mirror" version, and the Queen of Hearts is basically the Big Bad, who wants to oust all the characters currently in existence, believing them inferior to her mirrors and her domain.

The events are pretty straight-forward, in that part of eway's structure is the Mansion taking and absorbing character memories, so usually twice a month (ac is bimonthly, so it ends up being around 3 times per AC period), the Mansion takes a memory from a character (or sometimes more than one) and re-creates it for all the residents. So tl;dr players submit events based on their worlds, a specific event, or a piece of their history, and everyone gets to live it out. There's a TON of examples of this over on the bulletin board page, but it's pretty anything goes, provided it's something people can interact with. There are events that just transport characters to a certain setting, ones where they're AUed into it for a few days (we had a killer Harry Potter Au Hogwarts event last fall), or where effects from the world bleed into the Mansion itself. These are interspersed with mod plot events, which furthers the metaplot, currently the feuding of the resident NPCs. Again, there's more info on that up above on the storyline page.

as far as just how the game itself is, the thing I love most about eway is that the playerbase is just so friggin friendly. I've been through a lot of games in over 10 years of lj and dwrp and eway, for me, is just the most approachable place I've ever been. I play two video game characters (one very nonhuman) and I've never had an issue with medium divide, with playing with canons I didn't recognize, or with participating in things I didn't have a canon idea of what was going on. Everyone is willing to help. In addition to that, people will backtag as long as you're comfortable (I have a thread still going from last September just because neither me or the other player wanted to let it go), but people aren't Super Slow about tagging either.

and uhhh this has gotten crazy long so I HOPE THIS ANSWERED SOME THINGS???? if you have more questions I will obviously be happy to tl;dr the hell outta this but I hope this answered some of the stuff you wanted to know!!!!
