[why]: their 'exes still harboring feelings' dynamic captivates me, what can i say!! very interested in playing this ship out messily and writing them both sort of learning to be with each other - my take is that the vibe arthur gives off is that he very much does fancy him but seems to deliberately keep him at something of an arm's length instead of always engaging genuinely because whilst he likes eames and thinks highly of him (albeit while finding him very annoying at times) he doesn't necessarily want to allow him the closeness of the sort of authenticity he shares with cobb (again?).

my ideal dynamic would be like, 'tried it years ago and it didn't work out so now they are a tense sort of 'just friends' because arthur has decided that It Will Never Work and We Already Tried It, Remember? but really he's still harboring Big Feelings for this guy that he doesn't particularly want to have and eames is aware of it because eames knows him better than anyone else does!!' like effectively thinking he can sort of choose to opt out of their innate chemistry, and like, he can't.
