Events are a combo of player plots as the Mansion lets characters relive other's memories, and an overarching metaplot with lots of NPCs. Apps are always open and processed every Sunday, and AC is bimonthly so everyone backtags by at least two month's time. I've also found it to be incredibly friendly and sweet of a playerbase.
