March EMP Meme
FOR GAME ADS: ➤ Put an ad up with the characters / crew / pairings / fetish you want for your game under the correct game header. This meme is primarily going to be focused on DWRP games but IJ and LJ games are allowed. ➤ PLEASE NOTE A RULE CHANGE HERE. ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding (no font size > size 4 or 3 "big" tags, no oversized banners (they must be 250px in height or less), no blinking text, no obnoxious table html that doesn't collapse easily, no sparklies, no large pictures). Use all the colors you like, but please remember 3 "big" tags is the limit and that's only for headers or title text rather than for all the text in an ad. FOR GAME QUESTIONS: ➤ RPers interested in a game can create a header for the game and ask questions about that game that aren't easy to find on faqs, such as the actual pace vs. what's listed/what kind of plots are run/if the game leans more towards plotty or slice of life/if a game leans more towards network or logs, etc. Both anon questions and anon answers are welcome in this section just like in the rest of the meme. ➤ This thread is not for speaking about wank or drama in a game. There are anoncomms that exist for that. This thread is specifically for general questions about a game that rpers want to get perspective on from players already in the game. Answers can be slightly negative (such as saying app response is slow or that the plots are repetitive or similar things) but this should at least be worded politely. Unnecessary vitriol, any mention of personal drama or wank, or mod teams/individual mods/players being singled out, will be screened and/or deleted. FOR CHARACTER ADS: ➤ Put up an ad about the characters you are offering. For PSL/1-on-1 ads, there is a separate subthread but for character ads for games, post directly to the meme post. Others will comment to you with the games/casts they want you to join. ➤ There is a "Find a Castmate" section, where you can talk about a cast you play in at a game, and try to lure people to join it. Not all games post to the meme or have a "wanted" section, so players that want to tempt people to their cast on their own can use this section for it. Please format this the same as the PSL/1-on-1 section, where you post the canons in your subject. For the actual text of the ad you must use the "Find a Castmate" form provided at the bottom of this post so that these ads don't get huge. When listing who's currently in a cast, please do this in sentence form (with commas) rather than in list form. ➤ ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding, with the same rules as the Game Ads Section above. ➤ If you're recommending a game to someone, try to match your suggestion to their needs. It's okay if part of your game rec is copy-pasted (such as what the game's about), but at least some part of the rec must be personalized to their ad. Try not to recommend the same game to every single ad, either. Ad spam that isn't individualized in some way will also be screened. IN GENERAL: ➤ Don't be a dick. This isn't one of the anoncomms, so any snide comments or unnecessary commentary on the RP plans of others will be screened. MOD CONTACT: If there's trouble, tell me HERE, please! Let's go with a Voltronish setting! I don't want to bring Voltron-the-robot too much into it - since Matt isn't a paladin and it's too easy to use it as a deus ex solution to everything - but we could have it running missions in other galaxies in the background, if you're okay with that?
Serah's keeping her powers'll probably come in handy, and the backstory you proposed seems sound to me. I'm wondering if the Galra shouldn't be trying to mine the crystals too, for experiments/powering ships a la Balmera - but I can't remember if the crystallized folks come back to life if anything attempts to damage them like that.
I'm happy to hash out the recruitment/rescue details in play. If you wanna throw me a setting as to where you think Serah'd be defending, I can write a starter. Or, if you'd rather start, we can just handwave Matt's ship getting shot out of the sky and going from there.

I don't mind if you want to ask questions, not in the least! I only have one myself: What's your stance on spoilers? Obviously since we're taking this as an AU there won't need to be many, but there may be some regarding plot elements of the lore and I don't want to spoil you on them if you haven't played all three games and plan to at some point.
That sounds perfect to me! I completely agree and get what you mean about the deus ex bit, and it also saves us from having to divy up or incorporate the paladins too much, no need to worry about writing them in more than we want to. (I'm all for filling out a world with other characters, of course, but sometimes it can be a bit much.)
Oh man, I hadn't even considered that! That's brilliant! Yes, that may very well be the reason. If they came seeking quintesence and learned about the crystal(s), I can absolutely see them trying to mine crystalized l'cie. I think that would probably be what kickstarted the rebellion in earnest? The Fal'cie responding to the danger by waking those crystals, which would in turn get the Galra to start harvesting the l'cie themselves. And given the Fal'cie's lack of judgement in who they turn into l'cie in the first place ("Oh were you just standing there breathing and minding your own business when that cat got too close to my front door? Well now you're a soldier for me!"), that carries some pretty gloriously horrifying implications. Man. Dark. So mining crystals and crystalized l'cie: YES. That sounds like exactly the sort of thing they'd do, and use them in their/Haggar's various experiments.
It's whichever you prefer for who does the starter! As for where, that depends on just how hard we want to go with this. If things are at their direst at this point (with the Fal'cie taken down and humanity left on its own) then odds are they're defending their last major settlement(s)/cities. The Galra wouldn't waste time taking the fight to the heart of the rebellion once the main obstacles were out of the way. I would either say Oerba or the ruins of the city of Paddra.
Did you have any preference for if this recruitment ends with them beating back the Galra or the Galra claiming full victory over her world? I don't, since it could go either way, though the latter would free her from her obligations enough to go take the fight to them and commit 100%. Or are we going for them being stuck on Pulse for a while?

Just so that I don't muck things up down the line: fal'Cie = the godlike beings who brand living creatures (mostly humans, but it seems like some beasts/game bosses were also granted l'Cie status?) with a Focus. Upon completing its Focus, the being then enters crystal stasis (except for exceptions created by fal'Cie at will). These can be reawakened by fal'Cie if the fal'Cie feels that the l'Cie is needed?
Based on the above, right now what I'm thinking goes like this: With all of that written out, I realize I am planning VERY FAR AHEAD. Feel free to twist any of the above to your own tastes! I'm mostly interested in getting a good mix of space missions and FFXIII lore, because it's really too delightful not to explore even if I remember, like, nothing from the games except how gorgeous the cast was.
Thoughts?
Sorry! Had to throw dinner on the stove.
To start, think of the Fal'cie as more like lesser gods, with three ACTUAL gods above them, and one MAIN god above THEM. L'cie are more or less their demigod "children", tasked with cleaning up after their damn godly parents.
That being said you have the gist of it, though there is a third condition in which a being can enter crystal stasis, as well as a second where they can be removed from it. In a few rare cases if the l'cie can "change their focus"/choose their own fate they trigger crystal stasis on their own. It's never fully explained why this doesn't happen more often, but I suspect that's largely because most l'cie are purged or exist only on Pulse in game. One of the four actual gods are also capable of not only waking l'cie from their stasis, but turning them from cie'th (the ones who fail their focus or piss off the Fal'cie) back into humans, and remove l'cie brands entirely to return l'cie to normal human beings. It's never really stated if the Fal'cie can do the latter, to my knowledge.
So that timeline would work out pretty well. I really like the idea of them going on missions (and bonding over having really stubborn sisters in the process maybe). Also just to go on record: I don't mind planning ahead, even far ahead! I lean a little harder towards preferring to have an idea of where things are going anyway, even if it's just a rough idea or something we might want to do an offshoot thread/meme for or something. If you get any ideas along the way feel free to share them!
That being said, I would interject one idea I'm toying with, but before that, would you rather keep plotting details here or do you have a discord, plurk, or any other method of contact we should jump to? I'm fine with keeping things here, too! I just wanted to check before I get too rambly.
