October EMP Meme

ENABLEMEPLZ

meme goes up on the last Saturday of every month

FOR GAME ADS:

Put an ad up with the characters / crew / pairings / fetish you want for your game under the correct game header. This meme is primarily going to be focused on DWRP games but IJ and LJ games are allowed.

PLEASE NOTE A RULE CHANGE HERE. ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding (no font size > size 4 or 3 "big" tags, no oversized banners (they must be 250px in height or less), no blinking text, no obnoxious table html that doesn't collapse easily, no sparklies, no large pictures). Use all the colors you like, but please remember 3 "big" tags is the limit and that's only for headers or title text rather than for all the text in an ad.

FOR GAME QUESTIONS:

RPers interested in a game can create a header for the game and ask questions about that game that aren't easy to find on faqs, such as the actual pace vs. what's listed/what kind of plots are run/if the game leans more towards plotty or slice of life/if a game leans more towards network or logs, etc. Both anon questions and anon answers are welcome in this section just like in the rest of the meme.

This thread is not for speaking about wank or drama in a game. There are anoncomms that exist for that. This thread is specifically for general questions about a game that rpers want to get perspective on from players already in the game. Answers can be slightly negative (such as saying app response is slow or that the plots are repetitive or similar things) but this should at least be worded politely. Unnecessary vitriol, any mention of personal drama or wank, or mod teams/individual mods/players being singled out, will be screened and/or deleted.

FOR CHARACTER ADS:

Put up an ad about the characters you are offering. For PSL/1-on-1 ads, there is a separate subthread but for character ads for games, post directly to the meme post. Others will comment to you with the games/casts they want you to join.

There is a "Find a Castmate" section, where you can talk about a cast you play in at a game, and try to lure people to join it. Not all games post to the meme or have a "wanted" section, so players that want to tempt people to their cast on their own can use this section for it. Please format this the same as the PSL/1-on-1 section, where you post the canons in your subject. For the actual text of the ad you must use the "Find a Castmate" form provided at the bottom of this post so that these ads don't get huge. When listing who's currently in a cast, please do this in sentence form (with commas) rather than in list form.

ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding, with the same rules as the Game Ads Section above.

If you're recommending a game to someone, try to match your suggestion to their needs. It's okay if part of your game rec is copy-pasted (such as what the game's about), but at least some part of the rec must be personalized to their ad. Try not to recommend the same game to every single ad, either. Ad spam that isn't individualized in some way will also be screened.

IN GENERAL:

Don't be a dick. This isn't one of the anoncomms, so any snide comments or unnecessary commentary on the RP plans of others will be screened.

I don't use plurk, but I think most all the rest the cast does, and Sanson's player actually set up a cast chat discord server that we hang out in! So yes, basically. :D

APPARENTLY that or Ritsuka is a catalyst for literally everything.

Haha oh wow, but at least it was the day apps opened and not when they close. XD Though I don't always bother test driving characters, myself, I mostly did with Ritsuka in part because I was also checking with the existing FGO cast to make sure having their master show up wouldn't mess with any of their plans or something. So what I'm saying is just jumping straight in with an app is fine too!

Sounds wonderful!! Now, to cross my fingers and see if I get accepted... I've been on pins and needles waiting to hear what the mods think of my application.

I'm still relatively new to DWRP in general, actually! I belong to only one other game (with a character from a relatively obscure canon I doubt I'll ever get castmates for), and I joined that at the start of September, so sometimes I feel like I've figured out how things work here and sometimes I feel like a lost child someone left at the store lmao but I'm working on it! It's been a lot of fun thus far.

They usually review them all at once a day or so after the application window closes! You can look at the replies to past rounds to get an idea of the timeframe.

Ahhh I've been around doing the RP thing for ages, haha. (Though now I'm curious what canon, I have a character in another game I've been playing in various places for literally years who's definitely of the fairly obscure canon variety.... XD) But yes it's definitely a lot of fun! Perhaps obviously since I've been at it so long.

That's what I figured! But waiting is always the hardest part... I'm always worried I'll have missed something or messed up somewhere, lol

I've been RPing for a long time, but somehow I was still living in the world of 1v1 messenger rps (think the old days of AIM, MSN, etc), haha. My friend only recently finally convinced me to join the modern era and give DW a try.

Also, it's Ari from Okage: Shadow King! My favorite overshadowed PS2 game, which did get a bit more attention when they released it as a classic on PS4, but I haven't seen anyone else actively RPing from it. What's yours?

Oh yes I know that feeling ALL TOO WELL.

Oddly, I never did much AIM RP, though I was on a few forum games waaaaaay back in the day.

Oh, someone in a game I was in ages ago played him! Although I've never played his canon. The character I play is Sion from The Legend of the Legendary Heroes, a primarily light novel series that also got an anime adaptation of its first arc several years back. (and which the novels are still almost but NOT QUITE finished, much to my and one of my friend's chagrin)

I played on a few proboards forums a million years ago, all of which I've sure have long-since ceased to exist. Man, how time flies.

I've heard that before, funnily enough, so now I think I'm up to 2-3 Ari sightings from years past, but I've never heard anyone see they've seen any of my castmates around. My expectations of finding any are rather low, lol

That's so frustrating, about the novels. I hate when that happens :'D Looking it up, though, it looks like the type of series I would totally get into. The character designs are very cute!

I played on the MegaTokyo forums WAY FOREVER AGO before they even had a RP forum. The "RP" was more like a collective fanfiction effort chock full of OCs in the story forum. Fun times!

Yeah I imagine the age of the canon doesn't help in your case, either. Alas.

It's really a great series! If you're familiar with the manga/anime Seraph of the End, it's by the same author, in fact. The anime is pretty good and worth checking out, just keep in mind that ONLY the first arc got animated, so it ends on the end of an arc but very much not the end of the story.

[personal profile] miracledrug 2018-11-03 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm vaguely familiar with Seraph of the End just because there's a Guren Ichinose in the other game I'm in and his mun very enthusiastic about his canon, but I don't know too much.

The Legend of the Legendary Heroes looks way more up my alley, between the two. Are the light novels translated? I'd probably start with the anime either way but I'm just curious.
lightofchaldea: (it'll be an adventure)

[personal profile] lightofchaldea 2018-11-03 10:04 am (UTC)(link)
So here's the thing about Seraph of the End: generally speaking, vampire stories and post-apocalyptic stories aren't usually my thing. More like something I'll enjoy in small doses on occasion and then move on. Seraph of the End is a post-apocalyptic vampire series that I only bothered giving a chance because I liked Kagami's other works so well. I ended up absolutely loving it. Take that as you will!

There was at one point a fan translation project of dubious quality on baka-tsuki but I think I heard it got taken down? Otherwise no translations that I know of. though SOMEDAY I want to just do that myself....

Fair enough! Sometimes your favorite author can pull you into things you wouldn't normally like otherwise, I totally understand that.

And ah... the pain of trying to get into mostly JP-only light novels... Basically me, crying, as I combed through the fan-translated summaries of Fate/Prototype: Fragments of Sky Silver for more Jekyll scenes.

Thank you for chatting with me btw! I know this has gotten extraordinarily off-topic.

I would say that if you end up really liking Legend of the Legendary Heroes (if you watch the anime, watch at least 3 episodes before deciding what you think of it, trust me) then give the first chapter/episode of Seraph a shot and see how that goes. It does a great job of setting up exactly what kind of convoluted mess of a story you're in for.

THANKFULLY I can read Japanese reasonably well to get through them on my own, but I know many people aren't so fortunate.

Haha, it's fine! I've been replying inbetween tags because the collective Fate/ cast is having a minor explosion ICly right now haha.
miracledrug: (jekyll smile)

[personal profile] miracledrug 2018-11-03 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
Duly noted! I was somewhat intrigued when I was first exposed to it, but vampire/post-apocalyptic stories aren't generally my thing either so I hesitated on checking it out. I'll keep that in mind if Legend of the Legendary Heroes really clicks for me.

Also nice! My Japanese reading skills are close to zero. It kills me, too, since I'd love to read Fragments of Sky Silver properly!

And oh? A literal (fiery) explosion or a metaphorical one?
lightofchaldea: (just spell it F G O)

[personal profile] lightofchaldea 2018-11-03 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I seriously only picked it up by merit of "well I like this OTHER thing by this author so...." and then the first chapter just sucked me in.

I actually started learning to read because I got into Rurouni Kenshin via the anime back in the days before scanlations even were a widespread thing. So when someone got me the whole manga in Japanese, the ONLY WAY I could read the final arc was to learn Japanese. Things just kinda went from there!

SO FAR metaphorical but I mean we'll see where this goes.

When Fate/ Servants are involved, you never know.

I'm probably going to head to bed now, but good luck with your tags!
