FOR GAME ADS:

➤ Put an ad up with the characters / crew / pairings / fetish you want for your game under the correct game header. This meme is primarily going to be focused on DWRP games but IJ and LJ games are allowed.

➤ PLEASE NOTE A RULE CHANGE HERE. ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding (no font size > size 4 or 3 "big" tags, no oversized banners (they must be 250px in height or less), no blinking text, no obnoxious table html that doesn't collapse easily, no sparklies, no large pictures). Use all the colors you like, but please remember 3 "big" tags is the limit and that's only for headers or title text rather than for all the text in an ad.

FOR GAME QUESTIONS:

➤ RPers interested in a game can create a header for the game and ask questions about that game that aren't easy to find on faqs, such as the actual pace vs. what's listed/what kind of plots are run/if the game leans more towards plotty or slice of life/if a game leans more towards network or logs, etc. Both anon questions and anon answers are welcome in this section just like in the rest of the meme.

➤ This thread is not for speaking about wank or drama in a game. There are anoncomms that exist for that. This thread is specifically for general questions about a game that rpers want to get perspective on from players already in the game. Answers can be slightly negative (such as saying app response is slow or that the plots are repetitive or similar things) but this should at least be worded politely. Unnecessary vitriol, any mention of personal drama or wank, or mod teams/individual mods/players being singled out, will be either frozen or screened (based on what seems right based on the content).

FOR CHARACTER ADS:

➤ Put up an ad about the characters you are offering. For PSL ads, there is a separate subthread but for character ads for games, post directly to the meme post. Others will comment to you with the games/casts they want you to join.

➤ There is a "Find a Castmate" section, where you can talk about a cast you play in at a game, and try to lure people to join it. Not all games post to the meme or have a "wanted" section, so players that want to tempt people to their cast on their own can use this section for it. Please format this the same as the PSL section, where you post your character's canons in your subject. For the actual text of the ad you must use the "Find a Castmate" form provided at the bottom of this post so that these ads don't get huge. When listing who's currently in a cast, please do this in sentence form (with commas) rather than in list form.

➤ There is a "Find Crosscanon" section, where you can talk about a character you play and and desired crosscanon for that character. Please make sure this is not too generalized a search, because just wanting general crosscanon can be accomplished with the other sections of the meme. This is for specific characters or character types you're looking for. In the subject, please list the "Looking for [canon you're looking for]" rather than your character's canon. If looking for a character type, list the character type in as few words as possible. Do not make the subject huge or I'll screen your comment. For the actual text of the ad you must use the "Find Crosscanon" form provided at the bottom of this post so that these ads don't get huge. This section is only for game crosscanon as in the psl section people can list their preferences.

➤ Examples of crosscanon you can search for: You play The Flash from DC Comics and your dream CR is fellow speedster Quicksilver from Marvel. Or you might play a witch and want cr with other witches in general. Or maybe you play a good character messed up by evil parents and want to play against a villain character you know has evil parents, because you know it'd lead to some interesting negative CR.

➤ ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding, with the same rules as the Game Ads Section above.

➤ If you're recommending a game to someone, try to match your suggestion to their needs. It's okay if part of your game rec is copy-pasted (such as what the game's about), but at least some part of the rec must be personalized to their ad. Try not to recommend the same game to every single ad, either. Ad spam that isn't individualized in some way will also be frozen or screened. Keep in mind this needs to be more specific than "this game has easy AC like you're asking for but meets none of your other requirements." Make sure you're advertising games that might click with that specific character, where a few elements fit what they're looking for. You should be thinking about the story reasons of how the character might click with the game.

Hello, sorry for the delay in the reply, the last two days have been a lot IRL and I did not want to dive into my inbox until I could give replies the thought and respect they - and their posters - deserve. (Also since this is not a paid account, it is harder for me to find replies to replies, and I am sorry if I have missed any.) That said, here we go.

I want to start off by thanking you for your support and defense. I appreciate it. It would have been easy to close the thread as not your problem and never give it another thought, so I appreciate the time and effort.

That said, I would hope that should there be a mod team for this - or any other game - in the future, that there wouldn't be a need to wrangle me. I like to think that I am at least somewhat open minded and willing to listen. And if I am proving not to be, then I appreciate knowing that. Because then I can work on it.

I do think that this game has potential as a concept, but the issues addressed here are more important than the concept, and need to be figured out before I could move forward with any concept at all. Half baked or otherwise. So all elements of plot are on the back burner for the foreseeable.

As I have said before in other replies, I appologize if I came across as pro-abuser. I most certainly am not. I had not been considering intentional harm when I decided I wanted this to be a clean slate game. I do not know how to proceed given that factor, which I should have thought of. By not thinking about it, I 100% messed up, for sure. But it was never my intent to upset, or worse hurt, anyone. And if I have, I am deeply sorry.

I just... was hoping to make a small pocket of space, even if it was just some game on the internet, where people could feel safe, supported, loved, and wanted. Where we could all forget about the real world and drama for a while and just... have fun playing pretend and plotting story arcs and player plots and dealing with events.

Anyway, thank you so much again for taking the time and giving the care to reply. I very much appreciate it.

(Also, while I do answer to both she/her and he/him pronouns, for the future my preferred ones are they/them. I am always fascinated to see how I come across online, though!)

i really don't want to pile on here, because you've already said you're stepping back, but you seem genuinely open to feedback and i would feel remiss if i let you walk away from this thread without bringing something up.

"intentional harm" isn't a great way to frame abuse. most abusers don't set out to do harm. the vast majority of abusers set out to make themselves feel better when they feel bad, so i worry that by concerning yourself with "intentional harm" vs "just doesn't fit in" you're going to end up putting everyone in the latter category. i really think you should drop the "people would be encouraged to give second chances" thing because what that's going to translate to is peer pressuring people to interact with their abusers or bullies, who are almost never aware or intentional about doing harm and will swear up and down they've never meant to hurt anyone and mean it. someone who repeatedly friend requests or PMs people who've unfriended them until they get blocked is a harasser, even if they just wanted to ask why. someone who claims to play a character who's good about consent but really isn't is still going to stomp on boundaries, even if they genuinely don't know what they're doing wrong.

i do get your intent. i don't think you're pro-abuser in any way and i don't think you'd ever knowingly allow harm to occur in a game you were running. i'm just concerned that you don't really understand the waters you're trying to wade into here.

Thank you. I appreciate this. And I think you re right that I don't really understand any of this. And honestly if I were just planning to live my life and focus only on myself, I wouldn't want to. A lot of what all of this has made me think about is... honestly terrifying. Trying to understand how people think in ways that are different from how I think is something I have been working on for years.

I really don't understand how someone could abuse someone else and not see that is what they are doing, that they could be doing this and not meaning it. I've dealt with abusers, I've been harassed, and stalked, and bullied. I've been verbally and physically attacked. And I will admit.. I've honestly never been able to figure out they why. I doubt I ever will.

But even if I was never planning to run a game, I need to start thinking about this more now that I've been made aware of it, because I want to be someone who can actually help people. I want to be able to be a better person, and a better friend. Maybe some day in the future, a good mod. And to do that I have to learn from all of this, even if that learning is painful to me. I'd rather be hurt than hurt someone else. A million times over.

And if what you are saying is true (I do not think that you are lying to me, this is my own difficulty in grasping this at this point) then I need to not only think about how to help others, but also examine my own patterns of behavior to make sure I am not doing this to anyone myself. I would never want to accidentally or unintentionally hurt someone. Friend, family, stranger. Anyone. I really have a lot to think about and process in all this, and I thank you for the additional information.

I do not at all feel like you are in any way piling on. I appreciate the information. I just... I guess I can't get my head around abuse not being intentional. And that is something I need to figure out. Somehow.

I will say that the one thing you mentioned that is giving me a different sort of difficulty is your example for harassment. Because I have trouble understanding how someone not in that situation could draw that line. As a mod, should I ever be one, I would want to protect my players, and harassment would be stated in the rules to be not allowed. But the kind of harassment you described wasn't what I was thinking about. I guess because I have had social media glitch and unfriend me from people's accounts who 100% did not unfriend me and would not have. I did ask why I was no longer on their friend's list. In some cases there was surprise and confusion and then things were resolved and it was a glitch. In some cases it was intentional and they explained why and I thanked them and respected it, and in some cases I asked, was ignored, and let it go. I honestly don't see how just asking could be harassment, but I will keep it in my mind that at least some people see it as such.

I have always been a big believer in feedback and communication. That is why I appreciate so many people being willing to be open and honest with me about their feelings. So that I can learn and do better. So that others reading it who have fallen into the same traps I have fallen into can also learn and do better. I understand that wanting the answer so I can improve is in large part selfish. I... can't really help that. I do want to be a better person, a better friend. And if I hurt someone I want to not only make amends, but also try to learn so I won't hurt them or anyone else going forward. But while I kind of always knew that asking was selfish, I never thought it could be harassment, that it could be hurtful. And if anyone reading this is someone who I ever made feel uncomfortable by asking (or in any other way) I am sorry. Very deeply sorry. It was never my intent to hurt you or upset you.

And this wondered, sorry. I am a bit emotional now, I will admit, and will probably be more clear headed on the topic after I have had some time to really think about it.

I appreciate so much that you took the time to not only bring this up, but to explain it. To give me this chance to do better and hopefully cause less harm.

I want to start by thanking everyone who has responded. I appreciate the feedback and am giving serious thoughts to the important points raised. I am taking a step back from all of this as I try to work through a lot of what has been said. I hope to grow as a person from this into someone who is more capable and able to create a space that brings happiness and a feeling of safety to people, in whatever form that winds up taking.

To anyone that might have been hurt, offended, triggered, or stressed by anything I have said, I am sorry. Deeply and immensely. It was never my intention to cause anyone grief or harm in any way shape or form. I extend deep and serious apologies. I am going to try to learn from this and do better.

I have been doing my best to reply to each post as it comes in. I appreciate the time people take to respond, and I want to make sure I make that appreciation clear. Even when the subject matter is particularly difficult. Or perhaps especially then. So thank you.

The next few days are possibly going to be busy ones for me, depending on how health issues go. So I may not get to respond as often or as well. So if you comment and I do not reply immediately, I appologize, and it is not an indicator that I am ignoring you.

As of right now, after all that has been said, I no longer intend to work on getting my game started any time soon. There is a lot that I have discovered here that I still need to learn and understand before I can truly create any of the things I wanted to create. If and when I do try this again, it will be in full mindfulness of the feedback I received here. And I thank you all for that. Everyone who commented, and everyone who is reading this, has been reading this. Attention, time, and thought are valuable commodities, and I appreciate you spending your time and attention to what I had thought was a small run of the mill request for help. I thank you for the deep thoughtful replies that have shown me that there is nothing small about the help I need before I can even consider trying again.

This doesn't mean I am giving up. This isn't me saying "I can't cope so I am out" or "it is too hard". This is me honestly and fully wanting to give what has been said the proper thought and consideration. Some very serious issues are raised. I don't have answers for a number of them. I am not sure I will have answers later. In at least one case, I am not sure there is an answer that works for everyone. But I can spend the time looking at how others handle these same issues, and learn from them. Someday, I intend to try this again. With better understanding, and better ideas about how to handle these issues. I still want to make a safe and happy place, but I need to reconsider what exactly that safety looks like, and how to make sure I'm not unintentionally doing the opposite.

I see your point about the uphill battle for sure. I never kidded myself that this wouldn't be, but I hadn't realized just how steep the hill. A lot of the responses here have given me a lot to think about in terms of restrictions, and other areas I had not considered where I clearly need answers I do not have. I am taking a step back to think about all of this and give it all the consideration it deserves; the consideration a mod needs to give it in order to provide a safe and fun environment for their players.

I can see what you are saying about CRAU and OCCRAU. And I can understand how a bad experience with that can be off putting. I can consider, at some distant future when I try this again if I do, setting up rules and structures for what is acceptable in those cases to help that. I did have one plan for this which was basically an AU thing, but that is a fiddly detail that is not currently relevant if I am reassessing everything as I am at this point. I will say that I do not want a few bad examples to ruin the possibility of fun for people who could and would play such characters responsibly, but I also want people who have dealt with irresponsible players to not have to fear a repeat. So while I am forming some ideas on that issue, I would want to run them by other people if and when the time is nearer, so that I have opinions other than my own to base things off of.

I do not think you sound like a Debbie Downer at all, if that helps. I thank you for the well thought out and detailed feedback. It is helping me wrap my head around the challenges so that I am better informed and better prepared in the future. And also gives me things to think about as a player who plays characters with a lot of CRAU. I believe I have always handled that respectfully, but now I can be more aware of myself going forward. I thank you for that as well.

I am not discouraged so much as... pensive. I suppose that would be a good word for it. I am also concerned that I have inadvertently hurt other people. I want to do whatever I can to make amends and to prevent myself from doing the same again. As I said, this whole thread has given me a lot to consider, and I intend to give it the time and attention it deserves.

To clarify, I have no intention of placing or assigning blame to anyone. While I say encourage, that does not come with a balancing negative on the other side of the scale. There will be no punishment, or shaming, or any such negative actions taken with regards to people who do chose to opt out.

Other people have suggested it being a private sandbox and I am considering that, but I still want to think through and fix a lot of the things that have been brought up here before anything else.

My goal was originally for anyone who wanted to play to have a safe space. I had not foreseen the nature of the difficulties involved in that. I have been made aware of more now and am trying to come up with answers for the valid concerns posed.

While I'm sure you've been well-intended with all these responses, I'm going to be honest with you: you really, really need to cut back on the tl;dr. It comes across as being overly defensive, needlessly argumentative, and trying too hard to justify questionable policies. Every complaint or concern does not need to be covered with huge blocks of text, or even at all in this particular case, other than saying "I hear you and will keep this in mind for the future." Conciseness is a key skill for organization and any game will need to stay organized to succeed.

Sometimes being thorough is a good thing! But it also can be very confusing to players and again, you start to trip over yourself and lose focus. My eyes glazed over just trying to make sense of everything you've said here and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.

I'm glad you're stepping back, but I'd suggest practicing conciseness in the meantime. I think you'd find it very helpful when modding.

Good intentions or not, you made it clear that opting out would be looked down on as this was meant to be second chances and automatically opting out would look bad and then insinuated that those that would rather opt out hadn't tried talking with their bullies enough. Whatever your intent its been made pretty clear who would be favored in this game.

[game info]: Reparacija takes place on a dying planet in a prison colony. I swear I keep meaning to watch the adaptation. With Nocturne on the way though I'm going to have to sit down and do it. I will say I'm thoroughly spoiled on most of the series though -- blame my husband for watching it on his own and then talking about it, lol.
