I can't speak for Jamie's mun, but +1 to everything stated here. And you don't have to know anything about Dragon Age to play. I was completely canon blind to it and I've been learning as the Doctor has.
There are lots of sciency types around, so Kate or Daniel Jackson would be able to find a niche to settle into :)
