June EMP Meme

ENABLEMEPLZ

meme goes up on the last Saturday of every month

FOR GAME ADS:

Put an ad up with the characters / crew / pairings / fetish you want for your game under the correct game header. This meme is primarily going to be focused on DWRP games but IJ and LJ games are allowed.

PLEASE NOTE A RULE CHANGE HERE. ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding (no font size > size 4 or 3 "big" tags, no oversized banners (they must be 250px in height or less), no blinking text, no obnoxious table html that doesn't collapse easily, no sparklies, no large pictures). Use all the colors you like, but please remember 3 "big" tags is the limit and that's only for headers or title text rather than for all the text in an ad.

FOR GAME QUESTIONS:

RPers interested in a game can create a header for the game and ask questions about that game that aren't easy to find on faqs, such as the actual pace vs. what's listed/what kind of plots are run/if the game leans more towards plotty or slice of life/if a game leans more towards network or logs, etc. Both anon questions and anon answers are welcome in this section just like in the rest of the meme.

This thread is not for speaking about wank or drama in a game. There are anoncomms that exist for that. This thread is specifically for general questions about a game that rpers want to get perspective on from players already in the game. Answers can be slightly negative (such as saying app response is slow or that the plots are repetitive or similar things) but this should at least be worded politely. Unnecessary vitriol, any mention of personal drama or wank, or mod teams/individual mods/players being singled out, will be screened and/or deleted.

FOR CHARACTER ADS:

Put up an ad about the characters you are offering. For PSL/1-on-1 ads, there is a separate subthread but for character ads for games, post directly to the meme post. Others will comment to you with the games/casts they want you to join.

There is a "Find a Castmate" section, where you can talk about a cast you play in at a game, and try to lure people to join it. Not all games post to the meme or have a "wanted" section, so players that want to tempt people to their cast on their own can use this section for it. Please format this the same as the PSL/1-on-1 section, where you post the canons in your subject. For the actual text of the ad you must use the "Find a Castmate" form provided at the bottom of this post so that these ads don't get huge. When listing who's currently in a cast, please do this in sentence form (with commas) rather than in list form.

ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding, with the same rules as the Game Ads Section above.

If you're recommending a game to someone, try to match your suggestion to their needs. It's okay if part of your game rec is copy-pasted (such as what the game's about), but at least some part of the rec must be personalized to their ad. Try not to recommend the same game to every single ad, either. Ad spam that isn't individualized in some way will also be screened.

IN GENERAL:

Don't be a dick. This isn't one of the anoncomms, so any snide comments or unnecessary commentary on the RP plans of others will be screened.

MOD CONTACT:

If there's trouble, tell me HERE, please!

offering
Cornelia li Britannia from Code Geass

preferences
  • I'd love to develop more slow burn CR, whether it's platonic, shippy, smutty, familial, or antagonistic! OUs, AUs, and jamjars are all fine for this and I'm cool with either starting a PSL or meme hopping.
  • I'd also love to do more conversation-heavy, introspective threads with minimal buildup. Cornelia's well-versed in matters of war, politics, nobility, and family conflicts but I don't mind threading out conversations on topics that are outside of her realm of experience.
  • If there's something you wanna do that doesn't hit either of the above points, please poke me anyway! I do take a more "let's see how it works out" approach to shippy stuff and don't really like diving right into smut, but aside from that I'm pretty open!
  • Castmates are cool, crosscanon is cool, crossmedium is cool, OCs are cool. Lots of things are cool.

Please PM this account if you wanna do a thing! ♥

Hello! First of all, props for playing Cornelia!

I like all of those preferences you mentioned, and I would like to test out this OC of mine against her. He's a good soldier; so while he's from a country that would have been under control by other superpowers like Britannia, he would have some respect for Cornelia being a skilled fighter. I'm totally okay with jamjars, AUs, or including him in the Code Geass universe and set it after the war. The former is easier for me and presents more chances for conversation and introspection, I believe? He'll eventually become a king in his own storyline so topics of war, politics, and nobility would be something he'd be dealing with.

It's late where I'm at, but I can definitely come up with ideas to run by you later.

Hello!

I read all your information on him and definitely think there's a lot of potential between these two! Plenty of interesting parallels as well. It could be fun to create an AU that uses those parallels to meld elements from both their worlds together, but I also love the way that jamjars give the characters a higher learning curve, so to speak, so either option (or alternative AU ideas if melding them doesn't work for you) is cool by me.

Def hit me up with some ideas! I'll think up some of my own in the meantime.

Alright. I like the sound of making an AU using elements from both their verses into one new setting. We can still get that same learning curve from jamjars I think, if we scale-up the setting perhaps. Instead of country-level politics we can make it into a planetary scale, with Britannia as a space-faring empire that could have taken over Earth and the major human colonies, while Troy's from a separatist faction from farther colonies who remains loyal to the old Earth government without the imperialism. So that's one way we can handwave why their technology is different from each other.

I like the Knightmare Frames; and we can say the Archon supersoldiers from his world with their power armor suits and genetic enhancement are the counterpart to that. We can have some assumed CR that they often meet in the battlefield and have grown a mutual respect for each other as rivals, but they never really get the chance to sit down and talk as people to get to know each other on a personal level. So now they have a chance to do that. We can start our PSL after the war between Britannia and the outer colonies, with Troy now being chosen as a new king of the outer colonies. And maybe they can join forces against a new enemy, whether it be fellow humans or aliens.

Awesome! If you've ever seen Gundam SEED, I think a PLANTs type situation could work here where instead of Britannia fleeing Europe and conquering America, they could have left Earth several generations ago to colonize outer space. Saying that there was limited to no communications between Britannia and Earth would still leave us a lot of room for discovery. Maybe we could also say that tensions on Earth had been high for a very, very long time with the world leaders operating under the expectation of war/invasion. Even with all their preparation, none of them anticipated the Knightmares, however.

For the enemy, what if we do aliens and we keep them fairly loyal to how they are in your setting while also using them to represent Geass and the Geass Order? Say that the aliens had been secretly supporting Britannia and only the Emperor and his closest confidantes knew. Maybe either the aliens decide they don't have a use for Britannia anymore and indiscriminately target humanity, or Cornelia discovers the truth (likely after something severe happens and is brushed under the rug) and starts to rebel against the aliens (though not necessarily against Britannia itself).

I don't know! Thoughts?

Oh these sound great! My knowledge of Gundam SEED is rusty, but the PLANT situation does fit this growing universe we're making more. The Archon Program would have been made for that expected invasion by the world's wealthiest people since governments would probably be too busy bickering with each other to be useful, which is another vulnerability and more reason for other colonies to defect. But yeah Earth and still-loyal colonies definitely would not expect to be fighting fleets of giant mecha. Communication between Earth and Britannia could have been getting less and less throughout the years, and they start to notice Britannia's growing ambitions and more colonies leaving Earth's allegiance, that's why they expected a war.

I like that idea that the Emperor and his circle being in secret contact with aliens (who could be a subterranean species to fit the Geass Order, hiding in Britannia's new homeworld. That way it's also easier for them to remain in secret for so long). The aliens could either be sowing division between humans by giving Britannia more support to be independent from old Earth, so that when Britannia and Earth go to war, they'll be easy pickings for them. Troy and Cornelia could have fought against each other a few times before the aliens reveal themselves, so they decide to join forces to prevent extinction and for these aliens to reach Earth. When they inevitably win, Troy can stay in the outer colonies to help them recover instead of going back home to Earth, and Cornelia can still remain in Britannian territory and help turn the empire over a new leaf so to speak.

How's that?

Sounds perfect to me!

So then are we looking at something like:

Britannia, being a space colony with limited resources compared to Earth, is secretly supported by an alien race that spurs its technological advancement well beyond the rate at which it would develop without their assistance. Thus, the Knightmares. Without realizing this, the Britannian people buy heavily into the idea that they're superior to the people of Earth. Public support for conquering and claiming their home planet grows significantly, and their culture (or at least, the culture of their aristocracy) develops along a similar war-mongering vein to what we see in the anime.

Britannia invaded a year? Two? Three? Longer? Before the start of the PSL. It's conquered some land (a significant amount? just enough to establish a stronghold?) and is making ground, but it's also suffered significant losses -- as has the rest of Earth's forces. The aliens lay in wait until one massive battle finally balances the odds in their favour and they begin their onslaught against humanity as a whole. The PSL would begin either before Cornelia's priorities shift, the moment that she joins forces with Troy, or after they begin working together? Yes, no?

Do you think the aliens should launch a direct attack or should there be more of a subtle build-up to an all-out war? Also, what'll be happening with Troy while all of the pre-aliens stuff is going down?
kublan: (Default)

[personal profile] kublan 2019-07-03 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
We can start it just when she joins forces with Troy, that way it's the best of both before shifting priorities and already working together. Maybe just when she and the people under her command moves in the base that Troy's in charge of, creating unease between the soldiers of both factions that the two leaders could try to remedy. Starting there, Cornelia and Troy could still have those lingering doubts from before they turn sides but also hope for the future now that they found allies and a more unifying goal, allowing their opinions on each other to evolve naturally throughout the story.

I think the aliens would prefer a more subtle take-over, like using mind control a la Geass as their main tactic, especially mind controlling leaders of both factions whenever any attempts of peace are tried by the two sides. Maybe Euphemia being mind controlled is one of the major clues for Cornelia that something else is going on, while Troy could be an expert in tracking down Geass victims and users in the similar vein he is a mage-hunter in his original version. Which would mean more reason for them to team up!

That all works for me!

I definitely like the idea of using Euphy as Cornelia's catalyst. Would you prefer Troy convincing Cornelia to join him, Cornelia convincing Troy to accept her and her soldiers, or both of them working together to reach the conclusion that they need to unite against the aliens? Or I guess we can also approach it from a question of, do you like the idea of Troy reaching out to Cornelia, Cornelia tracking Troy down after discovering that he might know what happened to Euphy, or them encountering each other while conducting separate investigations? Or other options I haven't considered? I'm open!

[personal profile] kublan 2019-07-05 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Cornelia contacting Troy would be the easiest, but it could be a result of him reaching out to her. So a mix of both. I'm already formulating a clearer picture like, these aliens mind control Euphemia which caused her to go on a shooting spree like in the anime to stop a peace summit, and Troy was in that event and stopped her from killing more people. Cornelia, understandably, probably thought it was to assassinate Euphemia because every political figure who gets Geassed are killed by the aliens right after to leave no evidence, but he in fact was there to save her from the Geass' influence. Before Troy ran flees from the commotion, he would have told Cornelia that there's something more to what happened and give her a way to contact him (likely an encrypted phone), and maybe Euphemia helped solidify what he said by telling Cornelia that she was out of it during the incident and he didn't harm her.

Cornelia would not likely believe her enemy saying that there's more to it than meets the eye, naturally. But maybe she already had lingering doubts of her own too that she chooses to ignore until that moment. Loyalty to her father and Britannia is so strong in her that it would create great internal conflict. So Euphemia would definitely be the catalyst to her switching priorities and the glue to her and Troy. He would likely offer to provide shelter for Euphemia in the planet he's using as a forward-operating base (and the one he'll later rule over as king) so the aliens can't finish the job, so Cornelia and Troy then start working together while getting to know each other on a more personal level. We can start our story there! Maybe with them working to call more potential allies and mount a defense for an attack but we don't have to play the battle out since we're both not into fight scenes lol. We can handwave/fast-forward if it comes to that.

[personal profile] arosetowar 2019-07-05 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
So then maybe,

Shooting spree happens. Troy stops Euphy and keeps her safe. Cornelia arrives on the scene while Euphy is still in Troy's custody. Troy hands Euphy over to Cornelia, tells her what's up, and gives her his contact information before fleeing. Maybe Cornelia sends her forces after him (and they fail) or maybe she prioritizes Euphy and lets him go. It won't be difficult to convince Cornelia that something supernatural corrupted Euphy, but connecting that to Britannia and/or convincing her that they'd be safer with Troy than in Britannia isn't going to happen so quickly. Cornelia's faith in her family is too strong.

From there, Cornelia launches an investigation and is ultimately detained. With her out of the way Charles authorizes Euphy's assassination because her death is imperative to Britannia's/the aliens' plans. Darlton thwarts the attempt, Guilford springs Cornelia free. After that, I figure that the four of them can go into hiding to amass support. And though they do manage to gather together a nice-sized army, it's nowhere near enough to stand up to the Britannian/alien threat and Cornelia ultimately realizes that their best chance of victory is to join forces with Troy. We could either say that they've been communicating the entire time, or Cornelia could contact him out of the blue.

She and her people travel to Troy's planet and the rest happens like you said. I definitely like the idea of kicking things off with them solidifying their positions and formulating strategies. Nothing too personal, nothing too complicated, just two former enemies getting to know each other through the thing they have most in common.

Thoughts?

[personal profile] kublan 2019-07-05 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's perfect!

Cornelia could contact Troy out of the blue; maybe she thought of contacting him earlier but hesitated each time because she isn't sure she could join forces with the enemy. And that way it would make Troy's people side-eye him a little for the decision but would ultimately come around and come to respect him and Cornelia both for having a less politics-driven goal since they're now actually looking out for humanity as a whole.
arosetowar: (☆ i want ornaments on everything)

[personal profile] arosetowar 2019-07-05 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome! And that works for me! With the hesitancy, joining up with Troy could be a bit of a last ditch decision, but that also means it'll be something she's been thinking about for a while. So by the time she does contact him, she'll have fewer questions over whether she's made the right choice. Of course she'll still have her doubts, but they should be less overt and therefore easier to navigate around.

Is there anything else you want to hash out?

Hmm. Mainly where you want to play this, I guess? I can roll with Bakerstreet just fine, but unless you want to play this in a musebox that's also good with me!

No preference, really! I don't have a musebox myself so it'd have to be in yours or if we go that route. Or we could set up a new comm. And Bakerstreet's fine by me. Looks like there are plenty of good "do whatever you want" memes up right now. Picture prompt, quote prompt, rain meme...
