February EMP Meme

ENABLEMEPLZ

meme goes up on the last Saturday of every month

FOR GAME ADS:

Put an ad up with the characters / crew / pairings / fetish you want for your game under the correct game header. This meme is primarily going to be focused on DWRP games but IJ and LJ games are allowed.

PLEASE NOTE A RULE CHANGE HERE. ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding (no font size > size 4 or 3 "big" tags, no oversized banners (they must be 250px in height or less), no blinking text, no obnoxious table html that doesn't collapse easily, no sparklies, no large pictures). Use all the colors you like, but please remember 3 "big" tags is the limit and that's only for headers or title text rather than for all the text in an ad.

FOR GAME QUESTIONS:

RPers interested in a game can create a header for the game and ask questions about that game that aren't easy to find on faqs, such as the actual pace vs. what's listed/what kind of plots are run/if the game leans more towards plotty or slice of life/if a game leans more towards network or logs, etc. Both anon questions and anon answers are welcome in this section just like in the rest of the meme.

This thread is not for speaking about wank or drama in a game. There are anoncomms that exist for that. This thread is specifically for general questions about a game that rpers want to get perspective on from players already in the game. Answers can be slightly negative (such as saying app response is slow or that the plots are repetitive or similar things) but this should at least be worded politely. Unnecessary vitriol, any mention of personal drama or wank, or mod teams/individual mods/players being singled out, will be screened and/or deleted.

FOR CHARACTER ADS:

Put up an ad about the characters you are offering. For PSL/1-on-1 ads, there is a separate subthread but for character ads for games, post directly to the meme post. Others will comment to you with the games/casts they want you to join.

There is a "Find a Castmate" section, where you can talk about a cast you play in at a game, and try to lure people to join it. Not all games post to the meme or have a "wanted" section, so players that want to tempt people to their cast on their own can use this section for it. Please format this the same as the PSL/1-on-1 section, where you post the canons in your subject. For the actual text of the ad you must use the "Find a Castmate" form provided at the bottom of this post so that these ads don't get huge. When listing who's currently in a cast, please do this in sentence form (with commas) rather than in list form.

ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding, with the same rules as the Game Ads Section above.

If you're recommending a game to someone, try to match your suggestion to their needs. It's okay if part of your game rec is copy-pasted (such as what the game's about), but at least some part of the rec must be personalized to their ad. Try not to recommend the same game to every single ad, either. Ad spam that isn't individualized in some way will also be screened.

IN GENERAL:

Don't be a dick. This isn't one of the anoncomms, so any snide comments or unnecessary commentary on the RP plans of others will be screened.

If there's trouble, tell me HERE, please!

Voltron: Legendary Defender @ Synodiporia

[personal profile] insidegalra 2018-02-25 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[game]: [community profile] synodiporia
[fandom]: Voltron: Legendary Defender
[game's current cast]: Shiro, Matt, Pidge, Allura, Thace
[who I play]: Thace!
[wanted]: Coran!! Also Keith, Hunk, Lance, Kolivan, Ulaz or any of the Blades. Syn accepts very minor characters and Fandom OCs, so if you want to flesh out characters like Antok or create a Voltron OC, we'll help you sort it all out!
[game info]: Synodiporia is a game where characters are kidnapped into a place between worlds by powerful entities playing a game that will potentially change the entire multiverse. The game is played through "Jaunts" during which characters are sent to other worlds to solve a problem. Players may choose to have their characters investigate as themselves, or temporarily be AU'd into the setting and believe they're natives. Syn is medium to fast in speed, and plot heavy. There's plenty of options to learn new skills and abilities (bonus AC mechanic) to get involved in main plots, side plots (players are encouraged to try all the things. Sometimes the results surprise even the mods!), or just to hang around and form new relationships with fellow characters. If a character doesn't work for whatever reason in a Jaunt world, we also have a Walkabout mechanic to provide more options and a different world to visit with lower stakes. Currently, everyone just got back from a world of Magical Girls and Boys in a collective dreamworld (or a world with very religious elves), and the next Jaunt/Walkabout combo will be Magic Art School or WWII with superheros.

Cast-wise, most of the Voltron folks ended up heavily involved in a rebellion against a tyrannical empire in the last jaunt, and both Thace and Allura died (but they got better!) in the big battle. It hit folks pretty hard in different ways, and will still be a recent big event when new characters come in.

There's a Test Drive Meme and Apps are currently open! (and here's the directory for reading about different aspects of the game)

A Keith! Hi! I love playing Thace and have no regrets about picking him up ever. He's a blast.

And yes, Syn is very plot heavy. So much so that sometimes one can get a bit lost, but we help each other out! There's levels to the plot too. There's the big game-arc meta plot that deals with the gracious hosts kidnappers who call themselves the Arcana (yes, as in Tarot) and are playing a game that will potentially change the whole multiverse and using the characters as game pieces. Part of that also revolves around the fact that several of the Arcana have died by now (one by Lovecraftian monsters even) and the fact that winning the game revives them. And characters' IC opinions of all this vary widely, leading to lots of sub-plots as characters navigate whether or not they even want the game to continue, and/or which of the Arcana they want to win.

And then there's jaunt plots! Most of those are more contained, and there's an option to have the character AU'd into what we call a plot role, which pretty much guarantees being in the thick of the Jaunt plot and also has other bonuses. Jaunt plots range from theoretically simple (help the locals reunite the lost pieces of a magical amulet! Help the very first local democratic election go smoothly. etc) to very complicated. Our last jaunt involved the aforementioned rebellion, but also baby star-people struggling to reach out to other sentient beings, and also the Arcana trying to take something from the world and causing damage to it. And that was just the half of it. It was a wild jaunt and so much fun.

And then there's personal player plots, which can and frequently do intersect with either jaunt plots or the big meta-plot. For example, one of the player plots involved breaking into one of the dead Arcana's personal spaces, which gained characters a ton of info on the meta-plot (and how new characters are ICly brought into the game too). On the other end of the scale, there's small actually personal things, like one of my characters deciding to pick up modern medicine so she can heal other characters better.

But for those who don't want plot or need a break, there's always options for stepping back. Walkabout worlds are usually much less plotty. For example, last time we went to Lovecraftian monsters world, the walkabout was entirely about taking care of baby dragons.

tl;dr There's almost always some kind of plot going on to get involved in, but there's also options to stay out of it, and our player base is happy to help with either option!

Yeah, mods will usually grant extensions, but they need to be asked for before the app period is over, I think. And! We got a Keith app in BUT if you're interested, doubles are allowed! (we had 4 versions of a character once; they color coded themselves and it was great).

The only requirement is that 2 of the same character have a notable difference of some kind to set them apart, which is why Syn allows AUs of all kinds! That can include Previous Game experience, player made AUs, canon AUs and and any combination of the above.

A Lance! Hello!

Yes, it's very plot heavy. There's a wide variety of tone from serious to amusing antics to "that sure is an eldritch abomination trying to kill us all" and range in scope from world-altering to intensely personal. And there's always some way to avoid a particular plot if it isn't to your taste.

And I'm just going to gesture upthread at the response I gave to the Keith who asked the same question because efficiency!
